yes indeed. love trumped hate. how exactly did love trump hate? let’s see.
love trumped hate: love filled the ballots of swing state voters with pleas to ban loving couples from legitimizing their relationships.
love trumped hate: love prompted swing state voters in horrifyingly huge numbers to pass those bans everywhere they were offered.
love trumped hate: love made people so afraid of homosexuals that they were willing to curtail their own civil rights to ensure that homosexuals didn’t keep theirs.
love trumped hate: love made karl rove cynically manipulate the base fears and prejudices of an american population too lazy and entitled to seek out the actual truth. note that even rove’s name is only one letter away from love, thus further proving my point.
love trumped hate: love made it impossible for me to travel to ohio.
the gay marriage ban that passed in ohio rescinds legal arrangements that approximate marriage rights. which means that, although i have spent thousands of dollars with a lawyer to get paperwork approximating the rights that come with a $20 marriage certificate, those papers are no longer valid in ohio.
which means that i cannot set foot in ohio, because i cannot take a chance on getting sick, going to the hospital there, and having my partner legally blocked from seeing me or making decisions regarding my care and my life.
my weekend project is to investigate this subject further and determine which american states it is safe for me to travel in, and which states i cannot go to. how sad is that?
frankly, i could continue, but this is just depressing me too much. i’m watching my country disappear beneath my feet, and i don’t know exactly what i can do about it.
the founding fathers, i’m quite sure, are aghast.
