from bloomberg.com, via andrew sullivan, comes this damning assessment: if bush and the republican congress had stuck to the spending levels we saw during the clinton administration, we could finance the wars in iraq and afghanistan and still have a surplus.
rather than a $400 billion deficit.
whatever happened to fiscal constraint?
And think how much could be saved if they didn’t get in trouble with that silly and worthless war… Instead of wasting money in that, maybe they could invest in education or anything better. What do you think?
silly and worthless indeed. if bush + congress had spent like clinton + congress and we didn’t go to war, we’d no doubt be in a much better position. personally i’d like to see large investment in making the country energy independent and more environmentally friendly. it’s easier to live a more environmentally friendly life when you live in a city like we do (we don’t own/drive a car, we pay extra for clean electricity, etc.) but it’s harder when you live outside a city.
spend money on that, for starters, if we could. that’s what i think ; )
